I fully understand that many fans consider the keyboards as integral aspect of the sound palette of Mors Principium Est but it is only in terms of the convention in this regard. What sets Mors Principium Est apart from other melodic death metal bands is that the band uses a keyboarder that does not drown the sound. I do not get it. Apart from this error and apart from the fact that the riffs here to be a bastard are not too innovative I can not ignore the performance of this album. They are the same in function and form of the other songs but the customers are not so mature or catchy which puts more pressure on the song and ultimately in one ear and out the other. Some people compare OED with a Finnish At the Gates and while I have no big opinions about this comparison a remarkable similarity that I can determine the insistence of both bands is sure to be centered guitar. The last 3 tracks do not offer too much variation and unfortunately do not differ too much from the already established scheme. Despite Viking-sounding lyrics Leader of the Titans is a little too far on the stupid side and lacks epic riffing to complement them. I love the introspective and philosophical texts of Cleansing Rain but guitars and drums produce sound like the real depth of these lyrics passt. The memorability of vocals of some bands like Wintersun and Norther is ideal foil for vocals by OED and unfortunately the album has a small success as a result of this shortcoming. Drummer Mikko Sipola came to the end of 1999 soon followed by the arrival of the new vocalist Ville Viljanen in early 2000 when Haukio decided to concentrate on his guitar game.
